Kergord Substation

The Future Group is currently subcontracted by BAM Nuttall to oversee site communications for both the Kergord Substation Shetland Noss Head Caithness, managed by Scottish and Southern Energy. This extensive £660 million undertaking involves constructing a high voltage direct current (HVDC) link, spanning approximately 260km of cabling, with only 10km on land. It includes the establishment of a 320/132kV substation and HVDC converter station at Upper Kergord, Shetland, as well as an HVDC switching station essential for connecting to the existing transmission system at Noss Head, Caithness.

The scope of the project encompasses installing FTTP circuits, establishing a robust and secure wired and wireless network infrastructure, which includes microwave technology, and providing ongoing maintenance services. Furthermore, the provision includes 4G resilience, hosted telephony, Excel Cat6 structured cabling, and fibre optic network services at both Kergord and Noss head sites.
